They run the entire floor, tracking millions of dollars in chips, rating the high rollers, and ensuring that the casino’s massive mathematical edge is strictly protected at all times. Managing the Inventory: Tracking Millions of Dollars

The number one duty of the manager has absolutely nothing to do with catching cheaters; it is managing the money. In the casino world, the plastic chips on the table are literal cash. A single pit (a grouping of six to eight table games) can hold millions of dollars in high-value chips inside the dealer’s trays. The boss must track for tracking exactly how much money is in every single tray. When a table loses money and drains the blackjack dealer’s supply of $100 black chips, the pit boss orders a ‘Fill’. • Fixing Dealer Mistakes: Human dealers are not robots. They miscount the cards, or pay the wrong person. When a massive argument erupts between a furious player and a dealer, the pit boss steps in. They will calmly listen to both sides, and check the video tapes to see what exactly happened.
